Dear Colleague,

Next week, July 29 - August 1, the 2nd International Symposium on Fluorous Technologies (ISoFT'07) will take place in Yokohama-Kamakura, Japan.  ISoFT'07 will cover all aspects of current fluorous chemistry and will include many of the world’s leading researchers in fluorous chemistry. The full technical program includes fluorous techniques in organic synthesis, catalysis, polymers, supramolecular chemistry, and biological and medical applications.  The 1st ISoFT conference held in Bordeaux, France in 2005 was received with a tremendous amount of enthusiasm with a very nice summary of the conference published in C&E News that year.

ISoFT'07 should prove to just as stimulating with Profs. Ilhyong Ryu (Osaka University), Makoto Fujita (University of Tokyo), Nicola Pohl (Iowa State University), Jean-Marc Vincent (University of Bordeaux), Josef Rábai (Eötvös Loránd University) as the plenary speakers.  In addition two awards will be presented at the conference; the FTI Award will be presented to Prof. John Gladysz (Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg) and the Noguchi Award to Prof. Dennis Curran (University of Pittsburgh) for their outstanding contributions to fluorous chemistry.  These lectures along with all the other lectures and activities associated with ISoFT'07 should prove a thought-provoking environment for anyone interested in the latest developments in fluorous chemistry.

Unfortunately not everyone can be there, but we at FTI will be doing our best to keep you informed through daily ISoFT'07 reports on F-Blog, the new weblog we have set up for “All Things Fluorous”.  The daily reports will not only provide updates on the latest technical developments that are reported at the conference, but will also convey some of the “flavor” of the conference, including some of the sights and sounds from Yokohama.

If you have not done so, you are invited to become part of the F-Blog community.  All you need to do is register and you can begin to submit comments and posts.  As an incentive, we are offering a 20% discount on your next order if you register for the F-Blog site.

Please join us in not only being a part of ISoFT'07, but also in making F-Blog an important forum by which fluorous users and researchers can communicate.

Introducing the Fluorous Blog

FTI is pleased to announce a new feature to our website, the F-Blog.  This blog is dedicated to serving the fluorous community by providing a forum about events, advancements, literature reports, and ideas related to fluorous techniques. The F-Blog complements our electronic Newsletter by providing a continuous source of fluorous news and by providing a method for public feedback, not available through the Newsletter.  At the same time, we hope that the F-Blog will be fun by providing researchers a vehicle by which to express opinions, successes, failures, and ideas regarding fluorous techniques. (Note: As the blog administrator, FTI will moderate comments for the purpose of keeping discussions on topic and non-offensive, but we do plan to post all appropriate feedback, warts and all. What good is a blog without some controversy?)

The FTI staff will be providing regular posts (at least 2-3/week) to keep the blog fresh and interesting. As part of our efforts to build a community and provide a voice, we invite you to contribute with comments or posts and to subscribe to F-Blog via a RSS or Atom feed, so that you will know when a new entry has been posted. Need help setting that up? We can help.  Please join us in making this new forum a success.
