On August 18, 2002, Professor Dennis P. Curran, Founder and Chief Scientific
Advisor of FTI presented to greater than one thousand delegates on his work
entitled "Fluorous Synthesis Techniques: From Separating Mixtures to Making
Mixtures". The talk provided an introduction and a broad overview of fluorous
chemistry as well as its novel applications in synthetic organic chemistry as
applied to drug discovery.
At the science conference, Dr. Wei Zhang and Christine Chen, both researchers at
FTI, gave detailed presentations on their ongoing work. Dr. Zhang presented new
fluorous reagents and tagging strategies using fluorous chemistry in his talk
entitled "Fluorous Synthesis: Using New tagging Strategies for Solution Phase
Parallel Synthesis". Other applications of fluorous techniques were presented in
two posters titled "Fluorous Mixture Synthesis of Individually Pure Mappicine
Analogs" and "New Alternative to Solid Support in Combinatorial Libraries: A
Fluorous Version of the Marshall Resin". The latest developments of fluorous tags
and diverse applications of these reagents attracted a large crowd during these
presentations.
"We are very pleased with the level of interest shown at our presentations and
poster shows. This is a great indication that the word is spreading quickly
about the time savings delivered through the use of FTI's techniques and
FluoroFlash® products," said Kyle Derstine, Director of Marketing at FTI.
