Biotage, Inc. and Fluorous Technologies, Inc.
(FTI) announced today an agreement granting Biotage the exclusive
right to manufacture, market, and sell FLASH+® chromatography
cartridges and Samplet® sample-loading cartridges containing FTI's
FluoroFlash® fluorinated silica. FluoroFlash® fluorinated silica is
used for the purification of fluorous tagged molecules.
Fluorous techniques provide strategic options for conducting parallel solution-phase organic synthesis and for separating the resulting reaction mixtures. Fluorous compounds can be readily separated from organics or from each other based on fluorine content by chromatography using FluoroFlash® fluorinated silica. These separations capitalize on the unique feature of fluorous stationary phases to separate molecules primarily by fluorine content. The combination of the two technologies enables synthetic chemists to leverage the FTI synthesis and separation technology with the advantages of Biotage FLASH+® cartridges installed on its automated High-Performance FLASH Chromatography (HPFC) systems.
"We are truly excited by the opportunity for Biotage and FTI to work together," said David Patteson, President and CEO of Biotage. "The combination of FTI's reagents and Biotage's purification platform, in use by nearly 8,000 chemists worldwide, will accelerate the discovery of new compounds by pharmaceutical companies. We view this as a breakthrough technique for synthesis and purification."
"Combining the power of fluourous chemistry with the speed and automation of Biotage's HPFC platform provides a scalable integrated solution to our customers", said Dr. Philip E. Yeske, Chief Operating Officer of FTI. "The combination is a natural fit and one that provides chemists a revolutionary new way to rapidly and efficiently perform synthesis and purification of new compounds."
